April 2019 meeting notes

    • Thanks to Andy and Jason Bishop from Twin Creeks for helping to present and bringing their award winning Bitter
    • Samuel Smiths, Fullers ESB (™) and Green Man from Asheville presented as other great examples
    • Good Luck to all competitors. Style has quite a bit of variation.
  • Treasurer’s Report – Mike U.
    • 4 new members from Twin Creeks, 94 members total
    • 6737.98 in bank account, -55 to Harry for ABC license for BigBrew
    • Still have insurance and EZ-UP purchase to replace aging club tent as largest expense to come
  • Throwdown Updates – Rudy, Chris, Allen, etc.
    • Post Event Wrap Up
      • Very profitable for the club, lots of receipts from silent auction items
    • Category Winner Brew Days
      • Brian Rorer has completed the brew day with Twin Creeks for Odells Citra IPA, will dry hop soon. Release tentatively set for weekend of May 11/12.
      • Matt Klump talking with Deschutes about brew date for his winning Dunkels Bock. TBD.
  • 2019 Upcoming Events
    • Next Meeting – BIG BREW at SHHS May 4 (9 am to 6 pm)

    • Teach a Friend Day at BRH – May 18th (not confirmed)

      • DIdn’t do it last year because BRH was maybe going out of business
      • Not enough interest from the club, so we’ll skip for now, focus on Big Brew
    • Microfestivus – Saturday August 10 (noon to 6 pm)
      • Harry will put out email asking for volunteers, will coordinate for our volunteers. Can also sign up for volunteering on Microfestivus site, but if you want to participate in judging, sign up with Harry
    • Green Hill Highland Games – Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 9 AM – 6 PM (Brian R. & Mario)
      • Paperwork being done, Chad, organizer in Scotland at the moment
    • LTHB Day – First Weekend in November (at SHHS & BRH)
      • Will plan later

      • Goal to brew beer for Microfestivus

          • Limited to 20 entries, currently 14 confirmed
        • Drop Off deadline will be June 8 at downtown Roanoke taproom
      • Will be inviting 1, 2, and 3 place participants to the brew day, will brew 1st place winner
      • Brew day will be Wed July 10

  • Twin Creeks to put in second brewery at Explorer Park
    • Will start with food trucks, transition to full brew pub/restaurant
    • 8 taps, 4 fermentors, will backfill as necessary from Vinton
    • Will be branching into farmhouse/saison styles, hoping to have full hop farm on site
    • Plans also for full wine and cider bar from other VA producers
    • Will not be year round to start, but may change
  • Big Lick will be doing fundraiser beer for Community Inn soon
    • Sent over 7k for Sierra Nevada Resilience for Camp Fire
