Hey everyone!
I’d like to thank everyone that came out for today’s Big Brew Event. I’d especially like to thank Tim & Amanda, Keith, and Steve for their brewing demonstrations today.
While the event was quite pared down, we had a good time and enjoyed beautiful weather. Crowds were smaller than typical, but if business in the store is any indication, the valley has a few new brewers after today.
Mark from Mountain View Hops also set up today to sell hop plants, soaps, candles, and other items. He was quite happy with his results and said that he actually did better at our event than another booth that MVH had set up at Parkway Brewing today.
Following the brewing demonstrations we held a short meeting of the gathered members, numbering about 8, I believe. We discussed prior business from our last meeting and also some new ideas:
- Keith mentioned that he would like to see a continuation of the virtual style presentations that began last year.
- There was additional interest in a message forum for our website. Chuck, would it be possible to implement a message forum with our current hosting?
- Everyone in attendance agreed that we should continue to plan for a Homebrew Throwdown later this year. Doug will be a judge at the Virginia Brewers Cup this year and will report back on how they are handling judging.
- Doug also reminded us that next year is the Guild’s 25th anniversary, which means we need to start planning now for an all-out shindig.
- Steve ruminated about Libertarianism and the failings of our economic system and monetary policy vis a vis a return to the gold standard.
I made that last one up.
I am calling for volunteers for the following committees/projects:
- Coordinator for community service events
- Coordinator for Homebrew Throwdown
- Coordinator for 25th Anniversary Celebration
- Members that would like to work on style presentations
- Coordinator for continuation of Quarterly Competitions
Members that have already volunteered to work on committees/projects:
- Steve Lusk – Newsletter
- Allen Francis, Robert Hedge – Video production for learning series
If I have forgotten anybody, please let me know. It happens far more often than I care to admit.
NEXT MEETING
At todays abbreviated meeting it was decided that we should hold what would technically be our second meeting of the month of May. Given the moderate weather that we expect for the next few months, we are shooting for outdoor meetings until September or October, or whenever the weather starts to turn cold again.
If you have a large yard and would like to host an outdoor meeting at your home, please speak up. Failing someone to offer up their home for a meeting this month, I propose to hold a meeting the third Sunday of this month – May 16th @ 4pm- in the backyard of Southern Hills Homebrew Supply. I would happily relinquish this date if someone else would like to host. Personally, this will be the only weekend this month that I would be able to attend.
If you have an agenda item that you would like to add to SCBG May 2021 Meeting II: Electric Boogaloo, please speak up and we will get it added.
