August 2023 Meeting

  • Eleven members attended the August meeting hosted by James and Joan Brown and all enjoyed James’ world-famous jambalaya – Thank you James and Joan.
  • Future meeting host volunteers (Need location ideas for November and December)
    • September Sunday September 24th 2023 – Harry Montoro’s house
    • October – John and Kathy
  • Financial Report
    • There currently are 72 paid members, and the treasury balance is $7,876.11.
    • We need to pay the AHA insurance premium.
      • Mike Usberghi to follow up.
      • Harry Montoro provided Mike a membership listing.
  • Upcoming Events
    • September 24th 2023 at Harry’s house – Q3 21A American IPA Competition
      • Judging will begin at 3:00 and all entries and judges will need to be there by 2:45.
      • Rudy will coordinate the judging and send out any other necessary specifics.
      • A reminder email of date, time, location etc… will be sent out.
    • October 2023 – Q4 10C Weizenbock Style Presentation
    • November 4, 2023 – Learn to Homebrew Day
      • Details TBD at September meeting
    • December 2023 – Christmas Party and Q4 10C Weizenbock Competition
      • We still need to determine where and when to hold the December competition / Christmas party meeting – Harry is willing to do so if no other venue / individual is selected.
  • Guild Flier Updates
    • Rudy Lyon and John Thompson have been reviewing.
    • Lynn Donnary provided the electronic version of the flyer.
    • It was suggested to send the current flyer out to all on the email list to see what inputs others might care to provide, i.e. additions, deletions, recommended edits. Harry will send out.
  • Feeding Southwest VA
    • Keith will send out an email for a September event with at least two weeks notice
      • Event will not be Guild members only
  • SMASH Clash
    • John Thompson will update the notification to include the recipe and will send out to the email list soliciting participants.
    • The club agreed to pay for the grain at a cost not to exceed $400.
    • Big Lick Brewing will also provide ingredients.
