February 2018 meeting notes

It was a foggy and rainy February evening, but 30 guild members showed up at Scott and Martha’s home for some delicious homebrew and a style presentation. Thanks again to Scott and Martha for opening your home to the guild as well as the crockpot full of chicken chili.

Dues Reminder- If you have not paid dues for 2018, please do so. Diane will collect dues at the next meeting if you wish to pay cash or check. If you would prefer to use PayPal, simply send money to president@starcitybrewers.org . Choose the “Friends and Family” option to avoid a fee. At this time, do not use the link on the website since there’s no way to avoid the fee.

    • This meeting will be our first quarter competition for the BJCP Style 13B. British Brown.
    • Judges and Stewards are also needed. Email merkwanjk@cox.net about entries or if you can judge/steward.

    • Delayed delivery due to an illness of the vendor. Should have them by the March meeting.

    • Chris and Dennis Stevens seemed interested in this.
    • Deadline is approaching

 

  • Community Building Update/ Ambassador Program
    • Ambassador Program: Volunteers needed to assist as Club Ambassadors.
    • Primary Role: Extend goodwill toward all club members and guests. The Club Ambassador plays an active role in building the community within the club as well as representing the club at various events.
    • Overall Roles
      • Introduce themselves to new members and guests at club meetings.
      • Make introductions to new members and guests with other club members.
      • Provide basic knowledge of club organization and activities.
      • Be a contact person for new members including answering questions at events and after events (email, phone).
    • Please contact Chris Gray or Takumi to volunteer as an ambassador.
    • Community Outreach Initiative
    • Tasting Events at Breweries or Tasting Rooms
    • Promote Women Brewers
    • Welcome Kit for New Members is being designed.
    • Next Committee Meeting will be held at Barrel Chest on Saturday March 3rd at 2PM. Please join if interested!

SCBG Branded Gear

  • SCBG Branded Gear
    • Sample T-shirts and Vinyl Decals were shown and discussed.
      • Shirts- $15 each- Vinyl printed shirts with SCBG logo on front and back
      • Decals- Weatherproof vinyl for cars. Available solid as well as transparent. Can have these available for purchase soon.
    • Other Items: hats, growlers, etc. to be discussed.
    • Sign-Up sheet will be shared for T-Shirts soon.
  • Twin Creeks Collab
    • Contact Andy Bishop if you are interested to setup a date/time. Andy is available during the day most every day. Some Monday and Tuesday nights may work as well.

    • We are still in talks to try and make this happen.
    • We are most likely the pioneers on this front.
    • Ballast Point/Deschutes both still interested in working with us.
  • Charity Fundraiser
    • Twin Creeks has offered to serve as a location for a charity fundraiser.
  • Tech Talk Recap
    • Thanks Rudy for hosting this. About 8 of us showed up and got a nice demonstration.
    • Rudy sent out the powerpoint to the yahoo group.
    • We will host more tech talks throughout the year.
    • If you wish to host a tech-talk please pitch it to Chris G. or Allen F.
  • March Tech Talk- Off Flavors
    • Doug Brown will be heading this up.
    • To be hosted on March 11th at Southern Hills Homebrew Supply at 2:00PM- Thanks Robb B. for allowing us to host at your business.
  • Plaque Update
    • James Brown is designing the plaque and the board decided to go with a new plaque. Carl Y. supplied some cherry wood for the plaque.
    • New plaque will be able to house all 20 current BOTY winners plus 20 more years worth of names. (We’ll let Takumi and Berg’s little ones decide what to do about the next plaque since they’ll be drinking age by the time we need another plaque)
  • 50/50 Raffle
    • $79 collected
    • Carl Y. won the pot of $39.50 congrats, Carl!

New Business

  • Big Lick Love of the Brew Festival
    • Volunteer slots are available as of meeting
    • Perks of volunteering- Free entry +15 tastes
  • Chris and Dennis Brewing w/ Hammer and Forge
    • Chris and Dennis will be brewing their Mint Julep beer with Caleb at Hammer and Forge
    • Beer should be ready for Big Brew Day/Kentucky Derby- Plan to head down to Boones Mill after Big Brew at Southern Hills.
