JUNE 2010 MEETING NOTES E-mail
Written by William Landry
Monday, 21 June 2010

Many thanks to all who attended the June meeting at our house this past Saturday. We had about 26 members and 2 guest Charlie and Jaime.

Kevin C. gave us a treasury report. We are at our highest member total for at least the past 3-4 years since I've been a member. That number being 57. We have a balance of $695.44.

A brief review of upcoming events took place. Floyd Fandango is July 3rd-4th. We do not have any official participation in this. Microfestivus is August 14th. Harry M. is coordinating with the the event organizers. It looks like we'll have a team of SCBG judges to go around and judge the beers for a best of show. I believe it is Starr Hill that will supply bottle caps to guests for a people's choice, which will need volunteers to help tally those. And of course anyone interested in pouring will more than likely get first shot at a slot. Finally, Blacksburg Brew Do is October 30th. They offer one of the few homebrew competitions in the immediate area. The winner gets to work with Jim Strickland at Bull N Bones to brew their winning beer.

Future Meeting Dates:

July Beth D. (APA Presentation)
Aug John S.

Sept  Bryan S. (APA Competition)
Oct 23 Jeff F.
Nov Carrie and Justin C.
Dec Will L. (RIS Competition)

BETH AS SOON AS YOU CAN, PLEASE GET ME A DATE FOR JULY.

Items from the floor started with Dogstown Pizza opening in downtown Floyd which the owner promised would serve nothing but craft beer. Check it out.

John M. will be demonstrating the recent trend of "brewing in a bag" this coming Saturday if anyone is interested.

Bryan S. mentioned a possible joint meeting with/at the Elks and Awful Arthur's possible in Feb 2011. Stay tuned.

And if anyone is attending Floyd Fest, John S. has hotel reservations nearby he's looking to get rid of. My notes are a little shacky on this one.

After a short break, we began the Irish Red Competition. We had a good turnout of entries. The scoring once again was a little scattered. But when the dust cleared 3rd place went to James B. 2nd Place to John M. And the winner, Harry M. Congratulations to the winners. Scores have been updated on the website. Also a congrats to Chris McD. for winning the door prize, a gift certificate to Blue Ridge Hydroponics and Homebrew Supply store. (Chris I will bring it to the next meeting).

That concludes the minutes for the June 2010 meeting. We'll see everyone in July for an APA style presentation (Bryan S.) and another off-flavor presentation (Doug M.)
