December 2013 Meeting Notes

The final meeting of 2013 was held at Chaos Mountain Brewing in Callaway last Saturday, December 14.  About 40 people gathered and we welcomed one guest, Jim from the newly formed Smith Mountain Mashers homebrew club.  Many thanks again to Joe and Wendy H. and Will L. for their hospitality and free glasses!

November 2013 Meeting Notes

November’s meeting was held last night, November 23rd, at the home of members Justin and Carrie and was attended by 30 some Guild members and guests Mat & Jovan R., Scott & Amina D.y, Rose H. & Garrett J., and Jeff & Debbie’s son who was the one who got them into brewing!

October 2013 Meeting Notes

The October meeting of the Star City Brewers Guild was held last Saturday at Kim and Lizbeth’s house in Salem.  A small but hearty crowd of about 20 members and 4 guests gathered, sampling a wide range of homebrew and commercial beer in the gazebo.  Thanks again to Kim and Lizbeth for hosting!

September 2013 Meeting Notes

June 2013 Meeting Notes

Around 35 members and several guests gathered at Kimberly and Rob’s house last Saturday for the Guild’s June meeting and Imperial IPA competition.  Thanks to the hosts for their hospitality! 

May 2013 Meeting Notes

On Saturday, May 4, about 30 members and 4 guests attended our annual Big Brew celebration.  Big thanks to James and Joan B. for their hospitality throughout a long day. 

Big Lick Beertopia Homebrew Competition

In conjunction with Big Lick Beertopia Beer Festival on June 8, the Roanoke Jaycees will be partnering with the Star City Brewers Guild to put on the Valley’s only Homebrew Competition for the 2nd straight year. Entries must be registered by May 10, and prizes will be awarded at Beertopia.  One Best of Show winner …

Hopsanity in Hill City

The Hill City Homebrew Club in Lynchburg is hosting a BJCP/AHA sanctioned competition on July 20 at Apocalypse Ale Works.  It’s an all IPA competition with extra categories for “new school” varieties – including Red, White, Black, Rye and Historical IPA, in addition to the old standbys, English, American and Imperial IPA.
